I have given birth twice and to be honest i would find lying in a bath of water very uncomfortable and irritating when i was in so much pain.. i couldnt be bothered with it.. i would rather be snuggled up in a nice dry bed.. this is of course just my opinion..

Birth is not a joyride, but there's a formidable resource in the mother's motivation & readiness built & enhanced with adequate previous training, supporting her in childbirth event & fadigue: breath techniques, self conscience, the "doula" &/or other women presence are main resources to homebirth. Actually C-section is an emergency surgical act, not the best way for childbirth.

You have a better chance of the "the head being to big to exit" in the hospital flat on your back. For one reason you don't have gravity on your side. Also, the pelvis is able to open up 30% more for the baby to pass through if the mom is in an upright squatting position. That is why you only see this problem in the hospital. I birthed a 10lb baby w/ no problem in the water. I honestly don't believe our bodies make babies bigger than we can birth.
