According to the ...
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, roughly two-thirds of prisoners were employed at the time of their last arrest. It's not that they "don't want to work," it's that the the work that's available is menial. Moreover, most drug offenders behind bars were not making "1000s of dollars a day selling drugs."
that would be nice. ...
that would be nice.. but what about justice for the victims? do they just get the punch them in the face a few times, while the man who should be in jail, has his arms handcuffed and call it a day? maybe that would, but see, justice would not be served. thats the only part you forgot about. long live johnny cash!

How can you punish ...
How can you punish people and not make it cruel is the point. Prisons are supposed to punish criminals but they only serve to make them more bitter hatefull and talented as they teach eachother tricks to be better criminals. Best way to do it, make them work from dawn till dusk and let them get off earlier for it. They dont have time to talk to others and learn to be better criminals Work them and they pay back for the crimes instead of us paying tax dollars for them to eat and sit around.
how do you know ...
how do you know we've never implemented it, and its true people do crimes for easy money, but instead of punishing for trying rot bring money to their families in a capitalistic world where money is everything, we could trie to balance out the government and the economic potential of everybody, since they are committing the crimes because of the unjust way the financial system is working. I understand your point though, and I think it is difficult to implement just economic laws that benefit all.
its nice in theroy ...
its nice in theroy but in the real world it doesnt really work. people do crime not because they are uneducated but because alot of the time they dont want to work 9-5 everyday for a shitty pay check when they can earn 1000s of dollars a day selling drugs
