MotoMan - What Is Luxury?
I don't know. To me ...
I don't know. To me, this car manages to be both bland and kind of gaudy at the same time. The styling overall is bland. To me, that says "cheap", not luxury. On the other hand, touches like the hood ornament and giant, ugly chrome grille say "tacky". Also, every Equus I've seen to date have an all black interior. Mono-tone black interior to me says "sports car", not "luxury sedan".

Ewwww Hyundai
Ewwww Hyundai
Sorry, but I'd go ...
Sorry, but I'd go for a one or two year old Mercedes S Class for the same price. It's tried and true. Besides, they're really lacking in the looks department. Nice car though... wouldn't mind renting one for a weekend. Before you knock the bigger brands... you must test drive to see what all the fuss is about. I own a C class that's 10 years old now and it feels as solid as brand new vehicles. I agree that it's luxury, but, there is also a different class that applies there as well.
Sucks how North ...
Sucks how North America doesn't get those slick vertical grills. The sideways grills are too reminiscent of the Genesis sedan which isnt a bad thing, but for the price gap and as well as being the flagship car, it would be nice to have some distinction.
but its different ...
but its different story if u only have the money to buy a nike but still want a gucci, then hyundai becomes the choice cuz it is at least 20grands cheaper
Yes badge does mean ...
Yes badge does mean a lot. For 60K I rather buy e class or 5 series, but still have a name behind my car. Why would anyone spend 60K+ $'s if there is no name behind the vehicle's brand? I would personally feel like an idiot if I buy Hyundai for 60K. BTW, this guy mentioned Lexus several times, so the only Lexus I would buy for than kind of money is LX570, because this is a real deal!
That's not a safe ...
That's not a safe assumption at all. $60,000 isn't just some arbitrary number, there are plenty of people that can afford that but no more just like there are people that can afford $30,000 but no more. Plus very few people buy stock vehicles, luxury brands consistently sell $20,000 or more in options per car. Paying only $100,000 isn't likely. And going from 60 to 100 means a larger loan, larger monthly payments, or delaying the buy. Not to mention the increased insurance premiums.
I wasn't saying ...
I wasn't saying that the S-Class or 7 Series were $60,000. I was saying that if you're shopping for a car that costs more than $60,000 that you would probably go to the $100,000 full size segment with the S-Class, 7 Series, A8, etc.
$60,000 for an S- ...
$60,000 for an S-class or 7-series? I don't know where you buy cars but if you can get either for that cheap I want to know where that is! Those cars START in the high 90s and the options lists take them over 200.
I don't care what ...
I don't care what anyone says about brands, one thing is an undeniable fact. True car people don't care what badge is on the car, only what the car is capable of. If a Hyundai outdoes a Mercedes then that's what I'll spend my hard-earned money on. I'm not a whore, I would never buy a Mercedes simply because it's a Mercedes.
LOL at the guy who ...
LOL at the guy who never heard of Hyundai.
Replace the Spirit ...
Replace the Spirit of Ecstasy with the word Yugo and see how well the Silver Ghost sells... yikes.
Performance, ...
Performance, reliability, service, affordability, appearance and number of options are what I look for in a car and if this Equus can measure up to (or even out-class) Lexus or Mercedes-Benz on those grounds, I don't see the point of not getting this car. Personally, I do not like luxury sedans so I'd never buy one but if I were looking for one, I'd go for this. I don't have the "luxury" to drop extra 20~30k on a stupid "badge." It is ridiculous amount of money for a tacky plastic/metal.
Equus is already a ...
Equus is already a luxury model in its home market, it's going to take some time for people to get used to the idea that Hyundai makes luxury cars, like the story of a cheap Toyota that makes Lexus.
Car seems great but ...
Car seems great but, its too much of a leap for them (perception wise)*. People are not ready for it, even if Hyundai is.

Ill take the xj. the equus is only to look rich. for 60k there are better cars
I was able to tell ...
I was able to tell it was a hyundai from the second I saw it.
I'm sure most rich ...
I'm sure most rich people who can afford this car don't even know about it. If you have enough money to buy a car that costs more than $60,000 chances are you are buying a Mercedes S-Class or BMW 7 Series, not a Hyundai. I've heard that this Equus is selling extremely well with fleets for some reason though.
It's not really a ...
It's not really a car for ocd aesthetes like the Bentleys, S classes, and the like are. But then again has this psychotic attention to detail in both engineering and aesthetics like you see on the Phaeton and Astons respectively really mattered for commercial success? Wet cabbages like most Lexii prove otherwise.
"Are you secure ...
"Are you secure enough to not bother paying premium for a brand?" Genius.
Someone get this ...
Someone get this guy his own tv show, it's very entertaining how he presents the car and the nice sense of humor.
