What the hell are you talking about? I have over 5000 records in my house in four sets of shelves, they take up about 12 square feet of floorspace, that's nothing, take a look at 1:22 - that stack on the right is 11 shelves high, about 15 sections long, with about 100 records in each section that's ~16,500 RECORDS JUST IN THAT ONE SET OF SHELVES!!!
DEAR US GOV Bail ...
DEAR US GOV Bail him out...put the rare records in Library of Congress...pay high school/college students to convert to digital in high resolution, then release to the public through the Freedom of Information Act. Fact is, most records are worth shizzle (BUT SOME OF HIS _MIGHT_ HAVE HISTORIC VALUE...I GET IT) ...I've got a mini-collection I'll GLADLY take a buck a piece for....reality is, sight unseen, 25 cents a piece...at best... STILL: IMPRESSIVE!!! He deserves to retire peacefully...
I think the US ...
I think the US seller Craig Moerer has a bigger collection than this guy, although his collection is impressive. Go see the website recordsbymail (dot) com
pretty believable ...
pretty believable dude. Vinyl has been around for decades. Think of all the bands that dont even go mainstream, and the 12" singles and LPs that release. Millions of songs get released every year and its only grown since with the rise in population. As time goes on there is only going to be more art, not less (wether its movies, music, or any medium)
not really, his ...
not really, his collection has been verified by various sources
1,000,000 records?? ...
1,000,000 records?? That's IMPOSSIBLE. I can see thousands, but not a million. This guy must be bluffing about his collection count, because 1,000,000 records is very hard to believe.

I can assure of one ...
I can assure of one thing, you won't find one Hip Hop record in that collection. This guy only has real music. In this Digital "Throw it away if it's old society" we live in I don't see anything left for future generations to look back on. I guess it's for the best, these kids nowadays don't appreciate anything unless it has a touch screen.

His store made five ...
His store made five million dollars a year in its heydey, so if you combine the profit he would have made with the availibility of records he must have had, then you get the perfect collection.

Right on man, I can dig your input. =P
Yeah...he could ...
Yeah...he could sell individually ~ but the hassle would be monumental...and besides...he understands what will happen if not bought as a collection. That's the problem with selling collections of anything ~ it's hard to find people who share your love and vision AND who have the money to take it on. Cause this warrants serious space and more money to keep up. One who shares the appreciation would be my husband who has a puny collection by comparison...maybe 3000...and even that is a chore!

I don't know man... ...
I don't know man... he has that stones record which he claims is worth ten grand or so... he has the first record put on flat disc that he whipped out of the sleeve with no care... it's probably absolute shit, but still it's cool. The rest of his collection is just a ton of records most likely if you sold them alone would be worth a few bucks. Some would be unknown and not be worth anything. For archival purposes it's pretty cool though. not 3 MIL

Okay, lets do some ...
Okay, lets do some math. if you made 50K a year you would have made 2.5M in 50 years. Even if he paid 1 dollar per record he could not have afforded everything, where did he get the money for all of this?
