It's cool building ...

It's cool building machinery from available parts, but seriously, you should put some sort of guarding it. Would be so easy to make a guard that prevents access to the cutter, yet still allows hand feeding of the wood. OH&S has gone overboard in 1st world countries, but the basics will always remain. I'd be interested to see how it goes with true hardwoods, like we have down under in Australia. Have you tried any? I'll send you some Red Ironbark, or Yellow Box Eucalyptus as a test. continued ..

It is awesome! At first this looked really dangerous. Then, think about swinging a maul on a handle: it can glance off or miss and head for your legs, someone can walk up behind you. You know exactly where this one is going to be. Probably should wear safety glasses or a mesh face shield. Wondering if you've tried an axe head vs. a maul head?
