There is a lot of ...
There is a lot of great character development and backstory that makes it deeper than it appears. Oh Great uses a lot of wanton sex and violence in the manga which is explicit but realistic and even a bit meaningful at times, which is also what contributes to making it a seinen. One of the main themes of TT is the morality and purpose behind fighting, which is a bit rare amongst other typical action-oriented series, it's interesting to see the interplay of such vastly different chars and morals.
The reason people ...
The reason people hate the anime so much is because of how the backstory of Maya and Mitsuomi takes up 70% of the episodes and how the ending was so inconclusive and empty that it all seemed pointless. But, given that it was an adaptation of an ongoing manga at the time, these things were almost bound to happen. The manga on the other hand has about 3 additional arcs which are really long, and the manga has a fairly solid conclusion. Although TT seems like a cliche shonen...

SF2V was one of my favorite animes in my childhood, but 1 year ago, i watched the whole serie again and, i must admit that this anime wasnt that good..... Especially for the flashbacks..... All series are far better when they stay where they are the most epic, in the childhood, when you remember them, they're all good.
