I think we should help build a community of technology to improve the understanding of mechanical design. I'm not a car expert, nor a physicist, but combustion of a fuel transfers heat energy into mechanical energy, while a car running on a battery transfers electricity (energy) into mechanical energy. It should be the same, with the battery being able to run longer because electrolysis produces heat energy as well as splitting water, losing some energy in the process.
