Honda DN 01 Review Part II
I've only scraped ...
I've only scraped the foot rests a few times on some hard turns. Mostly when the wife has been riding with me. I've never bottomed it out though. Then again I tend to ride pretty easy. :D
I test drived one ...
I test drived one the only thing that put me off and stopped me handing over my hard earned cash was the the ground clearance on them every bend I took it bottomed out..
Glad my review ...
Glad my review helped. Congrats on your DN01. I hope you enjoy it! :D Ride safe. - Rob
thanks RC62, i ...
thanks RC62, i looked at your review and bought one yesterday.. i'm a happy rider.
Yep it didn't sell ...
Yep it didn't sell well in the US. Honda didn't expect it to and kept production really low. That added to the rather high price. As for it being slow, top speed is 113 mph and it is quick enough for me. I don't regret buying it one little bit. it is a fun bike to ride. I love it. :D
16 grand for a slow ...
16 grand for a slow bike with no storage capacity? Great looking but it's already the Edsel of motorbikes.
Thanks. I love my ...
Thanks. I love my DN01. It's not perfect but its fun and fairly comfy. It handles great. Honda only sold the US version in 2009. It flopped here big time. It's a shame cause it is a nice bike. The only difference between a motorcycle and a scooter these days is one you straddle, and one is a step thru. :D
Great review! I ...
Great review! I rode a 1976 Moto-Guzzi 1000 automatic for 10 years and loved it. It's nice that there are so many big scooters available these days. I don't know if you can even call them scooters if they're as big as a motorcycle. I think your bike is a future classic.
Yeah the DN01s ...
Yeah the DN01s didn't sell very well and were discontinued in the US so if a dealer still has one you can get it for a really great price. I paid $16k for mine. i don't regret my purchase as I love the bike but geez wish mine was only 10k. lol The Burgman is a great bike with a lot of aftermarket stuff available. I can see how it would be easy to start buying up goodies and over spending on it. :D
Hey RC62.. I was ...
Hey RC62.. I was real close considering this bike at a local dealership not too long ago. They had one reduced to $9,999. Ended up getting the Burgman 650 Executive. I wanted something for touring and taking the wife. This just did not fit the bill for me. It is quite neat looking. Like the bags. I need to get a top box for the Executive. I also need to chill a little about purchasing additional items for the Burgman. Enjoy it..
Thanks that is ...
Thanks that is really good to know. :D
One thing to notice ...
One thing to notice: if you plan to ride with a large top case after pushing back a top case plate, you probably will need the admore ligtning kit for a top case because the stop light and turn signals become almost invisible from high cars like SUVs. Keep this in mind.
Thanks... Now to ...
Thanks... Now to see if/when I can come up with the money to get me a set. :D
Yes, I'm able to ...
Yes, I'm able to install the cases by myself, it's pretty easy, but require some small plastic drilling. 2 holes about 2cm long. There is a manual at Givi website for installing cases mount on the DN-01. givi.it/My-motorcycle/?ma=HONDA&mo=DN-01-700-08--11 (press download PDF button). As I said before, you will need 2 longer M10 in case the Givi mount in one place uses the same holes as the backrest. When you will download the manual for 265FZ, it will be on page 2, screw #6 replacement.
givi.it/My- ...
givi.it/My-motorcycle/?ma=HONDA&mo=DN-01-700-08--11 I have 265FZ monorack(DN-01 specific)+PLX204 side case mount(DN-01 specific)+M5 plate(monokey system). Actually you can only install Givi V35 sidecases and depending on which plate (Monokey or Monolock givi.it/Fitment-kits/Monorack/Monorack-FZ) you will choose, the range of top cases for this system you can install. The monokey is better,it's a premium line and designed for heavier loads. Then you go here givi.it/cases/ choose what you like.
Cool. That is good ...
Cool. That is good to know. Were you able to install the Givi cases yourself or did it require a trip to the shop? Also, which Givi mount and cases did you get? I've looked at their site and it only confused me as to what is compatible with what.
Hello again. Now I ...
Hello again. Now I have the same backrest as yours and I can say that it is compatible with Givi sidecases and after a little mod - with top case. All you will need is 2 new screws M10, about 25-30mm long and a steel plate with 8 holes to push the top case plate backwards.
Thank you. I am ...
Thank you. I am glad you enjoyed my review. Honda knew that the DN01 would probably not sell in large numbers so they kept production low. In fact, for the US it was only available in 2009. Keeping the production low also meant that the cost of each bike was high thus further limiting sales. While not a perfect bike, it has some minor design flaws imho, it is a great ride. I don't regret buying mine one little bit. :D
Nice to see a real ...
Nice to see a real world review, a guy told me about about this the other day and it does look really interesting, as well as looking every unique. Shame its was so expensive here in the UK. there doesn't seem to be any at all. I could see myself on something like this.Im new to biking and only been riding a few months so I'm open to what is out there from my eventual step up from my humble 125. Anyway the most important thing is that yourself is enjoying the bike.

The DN-01 seems to ...
The DN-01 seems to be designed toward shorter riders. At 5'11" I could not see the gauges under the windscreen easily and had to replace it with a higher screen. At times I feel the floorboards need to be pushed a bit further forward too as I feel a little cramped after a while. It isn't bad though. I'd suggest finding one and trying it out. You might find it is fine for you. If not, a higher windscreen and maybe a seat pad could add just enough to make it work for you.
Do you think this ...
Do you think this would suit a 6ft2" rider? I am uhming and arring about this at the moment here in the UK....
