Since you mentioned about making deals with terrorists, why then the US government supplied and armed Mujahadeen back in the 1970s and 1980s only to now label them as terrorists? My point is that due to political circumstances and one's own interests, anyone is willing to make deals with fanatics and the US is no exception.
