I cant really answer if its easy to use, if you mean compared to other programs. although learning 3d in general takes a long time.

Lightwave is better ...
Lightwave is better for modeling I'd say. I've been using lightwave for 3 years and Maya is better for animating. That's my opinion though. You can get maya for free if your in high school or college.
