This craft is like Volga and Concorde like Mercedes.
Of course people ...
Of course people are going to bash the United States here. They don't like it that we used the Tupolev Tu-144 because their intolerance makes them think that it is too Russian and is therefore Socialist or Fascist. They are the ignorant Americans. Don't worry not all of us are like this.
Sad to read all the ...
Sad to read all the American-Russian bashing! I think most are beyond that, but the governments are the culable parties (like Putin and his cronies) continue to incite this distrust and hatred. It's obvious that Western aerospace in helping on this project. Much more could be said, but I'm sure some people will jump on the first chance to blast my comments with more stupidity!

I was just wondering if Mr. Tupolev ever flew in his own creation. I don't think so. Enough said...

In post-communist Russia, Soviet sycophants suck off to same sex slavemasters.
I agree. If the ...
I agree. If the Soviets built a copy of the Concorde, it would have reliably flown for many years with a perfect safety record marred by only one crash due to a piece of runway debris. The Soviets undermine themselves, stealing technology they are too backward to produce themselves, and then making excuses for why the resultant dangerous piece of shit doesn't work.
What? The Soviet ...
What? The Soviet designers built a large turd! The canards were built to help lower the landing speed, not for anything that was advantageous. Junk. Dangerous junk.

that's what you get from stolen plans
As a footnote, the ...
As a footnote, the 144 suffered from its monolithic chassis, huge single alloy sections. Once a crack started, it would continue for many meters. Today, computer modeling makes finding the flaws much easier. Multiple smaller sections is far safer, but you have to remember this was from the 1960s.
The aerodynamic ...
The aerodynamic requirements of an aircraft this large actually dictate the overall shape, so the Tupolev must look similar to the Concorde. This includes the engine intakes and the wing shape. The low speed canards are unique to the TU-144. The XB-70 Valkyrie also has canards, placed lower. In another video, the deployment is demonstrated, they still work after powering the aircraft, very cool. The Soviet engineers did a wonderful job designing this machine.

Они на войну собрались?
it only crashed ...
it only crashed once, and it was because pilot tried to avoid collision with another aircraft during an airshow. Concorde crashed too, and it's not a copy. There is no evidence for that, this plane has canards, concorde doesn't. People in the west always tries to undermine soviet achievements by saying it's a copy.

It flew first because the Russians stole the design for Concorde, but in attempting to 'beat' the West their design was inferior and crashed. End of programme......

144D had Koleszov RD--36--51 egines. 144LL was useing the TU-160 bombers engines (Kuznyecov NK-321)

Not the "D" version with turbojets. The afterburning turbofan engines were used as a stop-gap, while the more efficient engines were being developed. This airframe had the original turbojets replaced with more common engines for these test flights.

As it is useing TU-160 engines it sure has. ;) All 144 had.
