Hey that is great. ...
Hey that is great. I use the elliptical machine. swim and walk but I think I will start using the stationary bike at the gym. I have also looked up pre-surgery exercises for the hip which I will start doing. My hip surgery is scheduled for the end of August. I am so sorry you crashed and broke your femur where the femoral component is inserted. Cross your fingers you will heal without surgery. (Now that I have looked at the video, I know what you are referring to).
@QuinWoodworth I ...
@QuinWoodworth I was an avid cyclist when I first broke my hip while speed skating in1986 retired in 88 and in 2009 started cycling again to get fit once again for my health and my surgery. A year in I have continued cycling as it's low impact, Mostly I ride a stationary bike so cycling is my passion for fitness. Last week 29 Apr 12 I crashed my bike after breaking my handlebars & broke my femur where the femoral component is inserted. No surgery yet but I'm hopeful it will heal OK. Stay tuned..

How did it go??? I also saw the tendons and muscle cut..OMG..is it much like when I had a C_section to deliver my son..couldnt pick up a gallon of milk 1 week after..I am so not comparing it to that in no way..but muscle cut is awful...so my best friend and boyfriend of 4 yrs and he is 47, he is so cautious of movement of his leg..how is that going for U..did U think twice before..??

The last hip ...
The last hip replacement was done 16th Nov 2011, the 4th. I'm 69, i,m down to using one stick now. I would say to anyone contemplating the op, do not have any doubts at all, normaly the operation is nothing to worry about. To be free of pain is the most wonderful feeling if you have suffered with it before. there is no comparison in the fredom tou feel. Mike D. Spain.
lol too late I ...
lol too late I watched it I had an idea I was like what about the muscles and the tendons???lol well now I know AND WISH I DIDN'T KNOW .. I'm 36 going under the knife on feb28 yes I'm nervous..but it has to be done tired of the pain bring more pain to have no more pain ??sound logical at this point...I have no choice!
The joint capsule ...
The joint capsule is removed altogether - because the surfaces aren't 'living' they don't require synovial fluid for lubrication or nourishment etc.. Of course this compromises the stability at the hip which is why the surgeon uses forceps to separate the surrounding muscles rather than cutting through them, to promote maximum possible stability at the joint and limit dislocation as much as possible. I don't know about the ligaments or arteries though...

wait...what happen ...
wait...what happen to those illiofemoral/ischiofemoral,pubofemoral ligaments? wouldn't you dislocate your femoral head without them? i know ur muscles still hold them in place but still...the second thing is what happen to the synovial fluid? without it will it be easy to articulate? and since the neck of the femur is sawed off what happen to all the anastomoses of arteries? i am so confused...one reason why i should never have studied medicine...

Please if posible ...
Please if posible do not get the hip replacement , suffer the pain as long as you can. I have had three hip replacements and now for the past 5 yrs. I have not had a hip and I am unable to walk....the surgeries failed and my hip was removed and not replaced....three stikes and you are out.
I really appreciate ...
I really appreciate my surgeon who did #1 in 2005 and will be doing #2 now. I am scheduling this one sooner. I had double slippage of capital epihyses following sledding at 12 I thought I was invincible after surgeries to stabliize them with corrugated pins. Consequently, the ancient burred up 1963 three pins in the right hip took 6 hours to remove. We will all know better with this one. I'll be missing Zumba for a good while. Hate that! Hate unrelenting pain more.
That goes without ...
That goes without saying, no one goes in for surgery such as this unless it's necessary. Slight discomfort is easy to live with but severe pain isn't. This procedure is for those who need it and only the patient is the one who can make that determination.
Of course there are ...
Of course there are millions of successful surgeries but they are to be avoided at all costs until they are really necessary and only after all other therapies have failed. Thanks for your posting. Jacques
