17MM Mod for Savage Owners

...

Thinking about it. ...

Thinking about it. There is no "meat" in the extensions part which is prone to developing play ... the XL axles might be required afterall. Or perhaps the 5T axles?

I like the pin ...

I like the pin method you used (put the pin through the axle & carrier and seal it with that wrap thing) better than the snap on system like the standard hex has. But this would same me some cash.

Have you seen the ...

Have you seen the product from Integy (yeah I know..)? Seems like the thing you did only I would be able to keep my current axles and no need for drilling right? site from integy.com /st_prod . html? p_prodid=7445&p_catid=202#.T6_MspIepLM

I finally watched ...

I finally watched the video on a computer that has sound. I see what you mean, thanks!

Because of the ...

Because of the length. The axle and 17mm hub are about the same length.

Thanks for the ...

Thanks for the reply but can you elaborate why so?

They have to be the ...

They have to be the extended ones to match the savage.

What about ...

What about ASC89329 Associated RC8T Wheel Hex, which are narrower? Wouldn't that be a better option? Or for some reason they will not fit the flux axles? Thank you!

If you mean the ...

If you mean the 17mm ones then yes. Most are standard 17mm so you should be ok unless you run something like Losi wheels which are different.

does the ...

does the associated adapter fit the savage xl wheels??

thanks for your ...

thanks for your help

ASC89330 ...

ASC89330 Associated RC8T Wheel Hex

what is the name of ...

what is the name of the adapters.??

I made them. Use ...

I made them. Use the savage extended axles and associated rc8t hubs. Drill the hole and your done. Very simple but very efficient.

where could u get ...

where could u get them from and can i use them on the savage 5.9 xl

Nice, glad it ...

Nice, glad it worked for you. I have since sold all my savage stuff as well. Got a 5SC then sold that to upgrade my computer. I still have my other rc's and plan to get another savage for bashing.

I see what you mean ...

I see what you mean now. What I did was put a shim between the hub carrier and axle that way there was the slightest play possible. And if needed I could always leave the shim in if the hole was to big.

hole is 7/64, but ...

hole is 7/64, but trying to figure out where to drill...it would seem that you would want minimal play, so the adapter is tight against the bearing...the stock setup has about 1/16" +/1 of play, result is the wheel moves in & out which has always bugged me, because its sloppy and i'm having problems with dogbones binding on the axel cups, I was going to shim the inside bearing to tighten it up, but drilling the hole closer to the outside bearing may have same effect?

I'm sorry, I was ...

I'm sorry, I was thinking of a different video. Anyways make the whole to the size of the pin. Of hand I can't remember but it might be 5/16 drill bit but double check. Then the slop from the stock setup is gone. This mod was the best mod I have done for the savage.

referring to the ...

referring to the position of the pin to allow for play in axel. the stock seems very sloppy, not sure if this is needed or is it better to make it with minimal play...?..

Are you talking ...

Are you talking about the hole for the bearing. If so then nice and snugg.

how much play do ...

how much play do you want where you drill the hole for pin? nice and tight or loose like stock?

It depends, your ...

It depends, your limited with wheels when you go with 23mm hexes. Most standard sizes are 17mm so it's personal preference on what you want. I don't have my flux anymore but when I did I never broke the ones I made. And I bashed the snot out of it.

checked with ofna, ...

checked with ofna, the jammin truggy has 8mm dogbones at the diff gear box, the flux and xl use 11mm dogbones... wish it were true, and it would work, because I dont feel like trying to drill these shafts... tried the integy 10mm offset adapters, 3 out of 4 stripped out in less than an hour! not reccomended, total crap.... hope this mod works, anyone have any updated mods to keep your wheels on? Is it better just to go 23mm, using the hpi adapters?
