sketch up works well on making it look pretty, but I disagree with you, there are other programs out there that do that and also make it more realistic, meaning can it actually be built ?

Don't close your mind!! SketchUp was invented for early design stages, where once we might have used a thick and soft pencil. For later phases, where we would, in the 1950s, have used a harder, thinner pencil or drafting pens, we now need another type of software. Revit and ArchiCad are both good. Frank Gehry uses Catia. Thanks man!! Now when I got to high school I will refuse to use any other programs! I LOVE sketchup and its easy to use, just a kinda difficult learning curve. I'm so HAPPY someone respects it as an architectural program !! :D

You're right, SketchUp is a brilliant tool and quite easy to use. AutoCAD is great for architects too! Soon everything will have to be in 3D.

All technology get between the thought and the end product. Pencils have nothing special about them, they were the primary technology for draughting work for a very short time. You might as well look back romantically to slate and chalk, or scratching with a nail on the side of a marble block before cutting it. There's no CORRECT way, any more than there is a correct choice between watercolour, tapestry, sculpture and opera. You're just living in the past.

I disagree with Michael Powell. Of course, you need to learn to handle these all new softwares and new digital possibilities. But, FIRST OF ALL, you have to know how to draw the old fashion. Drawing by pencil forces mind to visualize your project and, most important, once you can draw by your fingers and by your pen, drawing by softwares is MUCH EASIER, and prevents mistakes. Just think of music: best synthesizers players and programmers are classically traned pianist.

At some point... i think it was from 6 to 7; sketchup stopped supporting DWG files in its FREE VERSION. Making you buy the PRO VERSION if you wanted to work with them.
