They made an experiment about this in the 60's and 70's, part of it was throwing frisbees to strangers in Grand Central Station in New York, and if one person were to throw it back and spontaneously join the game, others would join too, one by one, more and more people. The same effect is at work in this video, and it's really quite fascinating.
