Lols yeah all we need is private enterprise trying to get us to spend even more money on transit. If there were bigger restraints on driving and stronger public transit america's infrastructure would be fine as is. The problem they have is a direct effect of the lazy fair economics at it's worst. Urban design is one of the area's that capitalism don't really work. A car on average cost 7k per year. When that's more than the chinese per year makes how do we compete? Its impossible.

This guys seems not to be familiar with the idea of public transport. Europe? Is he for real? Europe is dominated by public transit systems. Cars dominate only in the poorer Eastern European nations which are lagging behind with their public transit networks. Car ownership there exceeds countries like Netherlands or UK. China is also going the way of public transit. More so than Europe. Simply because it is more efficient in moving large numbers of people. And that suits china well.

This idea that the US has no money for infrastructure is stupefying. We spend so much more on military and defense than any other nation. No nation comes close. We have so many gov. programs that doesn't work.(Board of Education is one of many. Education sucks in USA) It is big gov. and its suffocating laws that are driving business and jobs out of the country. We just need leadership with the political will to do what is right not what is politically right or what is politically expedient.

"Market driven" public transit in NYC, Chicago, San Francisco simply cannot/would not exist in those cities as they are not profitable and thus public transit in those cities wouldn't exist altogether which would mean car-dependent transportation in those cities which would mean, as pointed out, absolute gridlock in those cities. THUS THOSE CITIES *MUST* MAINTAIN "SOCIALIST" PUBLIC TRANSIT. But "reason guy" conveniently ignores that.

This "reason guy" is taking his BULLSHIT ideology and conveniently "finding" HIS "market proof" WHEN IT DOESN'T EXIST. China's infrastructure is absolutely "socialist" and it HAS TO BE in places like NYC, Chicago, San Francisco, etc. In those 3 cities - and others like Boston - are such dense cities that car-dependency for THOSE cities would bring them to a grinding gridlock halt so thus THOSE cities HAVE to keep a "socialistic" public transportation system in place. And the BULLSHIT about "no one rides the bus in Chicago, San Francisco, etc. is PURE BULLSHIT. Buses and trains in those towns are packed in those towns. Europe, Japan, China HAVE to keep mass transportation means because the densities of Europe, Japan etc. is such that reliance on automobiles is absolutely untenable as a car-dependent culture in Europe/Japan/China would bring the streets of their densely populated cities to an absolute halt. Mass transit in those cities are a necessity.

The Chinese government has specific ideas and plans of what it wants to do with infrastructure and economics and it does so accordingly using it's power to drive a market-driven MEANS to get to that desired infrastructure and economic target it desires. You fail if you don't see that the example of mexico was just used as generic example. Almost all countries in the world have some policy with regards to immigration. They do not want to deal with illegal immigrants. They put a drain on the economy while not contributing much at all.
