The office is one ...
The office is one of the best shows I have seen, and I disagree with those that claim it's British. I think it's an office thing, at least here in Norway I see a lot of the things that the series touch upon. Just brilliant. England is among my favorite countries in terms of humor, so much genius from a rather austere and stiff people.
I feel like it's an ...
I feel like it's an anglo-saxon thing, maybe it has to do with the protestant suppression of feelings in everyday life (although that wouldn't explain the Americans now would it?). I don't see the same kind of rage on French, Chinese and Persian forums/net-sites. I have a feeling Americans are worst, it's a culture brewed on obscenities of sorts, or maybe I'm just projecting?

Another thought: ...
Another thought: English humor like this, is the opposite of sitcom humor. The thrill is there's no cue for when to laugh. It's all about recognition and more importantly inappropriacey, on screen and in a way, for the viewer too. It's neither politically correct, nor provides security for when it's ok to laugh, the whole schtik is about exploring the very edge.
I agree this is ...
I agree this is better in it's original version (uk). Gervais wrote the entire thing, (casting himself here) from hiw own experiance. And for actingwork! So it's tough to beat him at his own game, but cultural differences in regards to humor IS an interesting subject. American "mockumentaries" can be very funny, reflecting american culture.
John Cleese in his ...
John Cleese in his Fawlty Towers embarked on a path of revealing the innate comedy/irony of a neurotic/frustrated person in a position of power. The controllfreak bound to screw things up worse.It's not just about laughing out loud, it's about the laugh that gets stuck in your throat. The uncomfortable bit. Being embarraced for "our hero", even as an audiance. There's some of that in typical jewish humor as well, Sacha Baron Cohen has both references.
The whole Brittish ...
The whole Brittish tradition of satire is due to the culture of hierarchy, social codes of behavior and a strong degree of understatement/inhibition that is entirely different from the american way. It all points back historically to monarchies and academica. Shakespear is full of it. This critique that can't be censored due to its interpretational cleverness and ironic angle. The humor is often "covert". Oscar Wilde was all about this as well, and many more.
Brittish humor (and ...
Brittish humor (and much drama) is all about what's NOT being said, ie subtext. Americans have trouble understanding it partly because they're used to a culture where people are extremley expressive, outspoken and agressive in ways that europeans and the English are not.
@199Ford The ...
@199Ford The British humour is probably just too intense for your mind to comprehend... Anyway, you must at least appreciate the UK version. without it, your 'funnier' version wouldn't even exist.

Ok, you haven't got a sense of humour, not everyone has. That doesn't necessarly mean you're a bad person.
