the so called " ...
the so called "future" story, does not take place in future, really... it represents what's going on in Jackman's character's head. The whole story is that he's losing his wife (tree dying) and after finishing the book of beloved after her death (Getting to the star) he is reborn (as is the tree)... It's not that simple, it's what's going in his mind... sorry for bad english, but if you rewatch movie with that in mind, everything will suddenly make sense...
