Vladimir Horowitz - Chopin Piano Sonata No. 2
Ever wonder if ...
Ever wonder if composers today could exist writing this kind of music? I wondered. Click on my name and then go to 4 minutes and 45 seconds of what appears. Just listen for roughly 2 and a half minutes to the end. If you don't like what you just heard close the window. But if you did go to the beginning.
Yes,I suppose ...
Yes,I suppose flattened fingers would take of the tension from the wrist I think.. But still I dont think I would ever be able to sit down and play for half an hour.. My hands would just fall off.. mosty right one.. I have a bit of problems with my wrist.. Hmn.. true .. The piano in the White House was probably underused.. Maybe that had something to do with this performance. but still theres something about Horowitz that makes me feel startled everytime I listen to him.
Horowitz was known ...
Horowitz was known for his unusual technique, the flattened fingers being the most obvious aspect. The pianos he used were adjusted so that a minimum of pressure was need to strike a note. (His personal Steinway D is always on tour through Steinway dealers and you can try it out if its in a store near you.) This performance had a lot of errors which is unusual. I doubt if he was nervous but a badly maintained, under used White House piano might have something to do with it.
Nostalgia is only ...
Nostalgia is only one of many responses which come from this kind of music and individually responses reflect each person's past experiences and learned associations between melodic and tonal form. There is also a 'community' rate of adaptation to new form which usually lags behind avant-garde for a number of reasons.

I dont know if everyone realizes, well most probably do,but i have to say it anyway..when u play piano ur hands get reallyy tired..they naturally do!And where there is such a lot of fast movements it really gets tired.im 19 and I can feel my hands gettin tired while playing and there is no way i can imagen myself playing for 25minutes such a masterpiece.my hands would just fall off.so yeah..what im trying to say is that it takes a lot of TALENT and hard work to be able to play like this.Amazing!

What does being a ...
What does being a 17 year old Aussie got to do with the discussion? You're not a separate species of human being. I'm not trying to prove you wrong - merely pointing out that the language of the gutter has no place on boards such as this.
Where do you get ...
Where do you get the idea that the use of bad language on the internet is "within the boundaries of acceptance"? It's not a matter of being 'up tight'' as you so rudely put it, it's a matter of decent standards and good manners.
look im sure u were ...
look im sure u were a "soldier"...but i will concede, swearing is bad manners...but hey ur 43 brit, and im a 17 yr old aussie boy from melbourne, we come from different social settings that dictates whats normal. When i was typing, i didnt it would be so offensive that i used the f word as it is a common expression. But why r u so determined to prove me wrong when i am sure every comment page has swear words littered al over?

hah, we all know ...
hah, we all know context makes the difference. Its a bit like saying would you drink alcohol with ur kid, yes, drinking alcohol is great, but with a kid is wrong. That is like swearing, no iwould not swear in front of my parents but swearing on the internet is within the boundaries of acceptance. It isnt black or white...and i find people who are too uptight and judgemental to be more annoying than people who swear...goodluck living in the real world
Question, would you ...
Question, would you accept that standard of language to be used to your mother, grandmother, wife, children? What would you think of a person using that sort of language? I'd guess a) you'd object to members of your immediate family being spoken to in such crude terms and b) you'd think the swearer was a pretty low down sort of creep. How we treat others reflects on ourselves.
I spent many years ...
I spent many years as a professional soldier - swearing isn't anything new to me, so let's have less of the silly mommy's boy nonsense. You're simply trying to justify bad manners and an inability to disagree with other people without supping up gutter filth. Go ahead chum, but I doubt whether it makes you proud of yourself.
shut up you ...
shut up you arrogant fuck. Your race doesn't make you special. I'm white and I don't approve of rap mu-oh wait, that makes me a nazi right?
