Consider some of ...
Consider some of the societies which have existed under the radar here in the US--all with faith that conceals the fact that many are oppressed because a few needing control, or who feel entitled to their lust and greed at the expense of the truly faithful.

I don't understand ...
I don't understand why people have issues with this film - it was set ages ago and comments only on Indian culture of that time - it's not commenting on present day India. Anyway, this is a great film and I recommend it highly - just as along as you don't mind being depressed for a couple of days... it's very moving.

What a foolish ...
What a foolish comment you make ! The #1 killer of young Canadian women of Indian heritage is her father, brother or husband. You wish to defend the honour of India? Then speak out against the brutality that still exists and is practised today

I hate the director ...
I hate the director who direct this movie. They know only how to insult and humiliate Indian tradition. John Abraham said he don't believe such kind of tradition in this movie. There's some point to be note. Director explored that when a girl married in childhood time and if she's husband died so she need to be burn together....director views is.... the old Indian tradition should be change into modern. Ok that's true we need to change the old tradition. But director he insults of the Indian t

I personally found ...
I personally found this movie to be both moving, and thought provoking. I laughed, I cried, I raged. As a western woman in America, this film gave me a small insight into Indian culture and traditions, even with the movie being set during a time in Indian history where sweeping changes were happening.

Anyone else think she's singing "Be a whore" at 0:22? Guess that's the fourth choice :P
I agree that we ...
I agree that we need to consider the skewed representation of India (and the Third World generally) that pervades Western art and media. Whilst this film's story is an important one to tell, I don't like to think that Westerners take it as "the last word" on India and that they suddenly think of themselves as enlightened experts on the issue.

can't u read? ...
can't u read? PUhleez don't ask me to watch a movie. This is your mindset. Why are you calling ME close-minded? The only thing you think you know about India is what you watch in movies. I'm not making excuses, i'm telling you the truth. Yes I'm proud to be indian, because i'm a good one. I'm helping the society, i'm working for my country; why should'nt i be proud? & you sit there, continents away, commenting on a country based on movies u've watched. That's why, ZIP it!
