I've seen swords ...
I've seen swords forged in the 13th century that look like they were made yesterday. electron microscope tests have shown that some swords have an edge barely a single molecule thick. I completely agree with your assessment of this weapon. Peace.
you are correct ...
you are correct about the sword primarily being a status symbol but when used in combat it was the most deadly melee weapon available, if you reasearch how they were handled back then youll see that it didnt require much force to completly bissect an armoured enemy

I like this ...
I like this documentary..but what the deal with 1-hit k.o slash? I highly doubt you can tear through that armor with just one slash of the sword. Most samurai back then uses bows and spear.. the sword are mainly status symbol. Those armor would have just glance off blow from katana.. especially since the blade is so thin you can't even hack their armor away like a giant broad sword.

It was made by BBC. Maybe if it was made by a Japanese Television Company, I would agree, but the primary audience was english speaking. Most would've preferred English then subs. Being fluent, I would've actually liked it in Japanese too.
