@alin1975 you are spot on with your breakdown of Bear Grylls, he basically does everything you must not do in a situation, but he is REALLY fun to watch and he is one of the good guys, so i respect him for who he is, i do not advocate his show. I do prefer Dave Canterbury for his philosophies and old school ways, he is after all a proud appalachian american ;) and i should be proud!

Listen, I dont care what you do when you are camping. These shows are about survival, and my point from the very beginning was that Bear's advice is dangerous and goes against established principles (so much so that he doesnt even follow it himself). He gives advice that puts his viewer's lives in danger if they choose to follow it. Neither Ray nor Les do this. Its beyond me what it is you dont understand here, but honestly, next time pay attention to what I am saying before you reply.

Continued: The basic, basic elements of survival are to conserve energy, to never take unnecessary risks (since even a sprained ankle can mean death), to protect yourself from the elements (including not sweating if it gets cold), in most cases to stay put (rescue parties regularly have to hunt down idiots who try to trek their way out), and so on and so on. The last thing to do is to jump in a fucking river (unless your camera crew is there, ready to fly you to 3-star hotel for the night).

If you want to test Bear's model of survival do this: 1. Move from one place to another by running frantically. Its survival not camping, so dont bring food or a change of clothes (so that you can die that night, frozen in your own sweat). 2. When you reach a river you are unfamiliar with, jump in it and float downstream in the hope of finding civilisation. 3. Scale dangerous cliffs without equipment (ok, Bear cheats here, he actually uses gear... but he pretends not to).

Ray gives good advice (so does Les for that matter) while Bear gives poor advice. Everyone wants ratings, but the issue is what exactly are they willing to do to get them. Bear is willing to deceive and to give harmful advice.
