Correct me if I'm wrong but as I know Scott Heron didn't collaborate with Jamie xx. The latter only made his own version of the whole record. I don't think there were any contact between them. I got this from wikipedia, so it's not sure. My first feeling about this album was similar to yours but when I read about this it made more sense not assuming the collaboration.

Gil Scott Heron is a very unique jazz music artist who was/and still is amazing in many fields even wrote some superb books which go into great depth of things which have evolved around his life. Back then he was judged harshly on his drug abuse but overall he has came out on top and still is as an amazing part of the music industry and spittingbloodhc is so right. The light within Gil Scott Heron didn't die it was transferred to those who were and still are inspired by him such as Jamie xx
