i really tried watching the british version but ricky gervais' accent is too strong. i have a hard time understanding him. the captions on netflix are a bit too slow too so, i had to stop watching it. i love the american version though. well, at least i gave the british version a go

The UK version only ran for 2 series , with a Christmas special to end it , It was written that way and wasn't supposed to go any further , having said that , I also don't understand the hate for the US version either.

@harrisjamesben The Office wasn't cancelled by the BBC - it ran for as long as Ricky and Steve Merchant wanted it to. The same was true of Extras, which is why that lasted for 2 series plus a special. Shows that last in the memory tend to be shorter productions - look at Fawlty Towers - 2 series and I think only 12 episodes - again, not cancelled by the BBC. If you overdo it, things tend to get stale - which explains your comment on The Office US after season 5. RJ and SM have moved on in the 1

Haha some Americans struggle to understand the accent in the UK version so I'm not surprised you sometimes struggle if its your second language. Also the UK version only had 2 series and a christmas special, not 3, but it didn't 'last' that long because it got cancelled, Ricky and Steve just wanted to move on to something different. Oh, and I'm English but I thought the U.S. version was great, at least up to season 5 which I've seen.

I wish I understood their accent perfectly. I only get about 80%. Well it's my second language so whatever. I don't really get all the hate for the US version though. Maybe ya'll brits are angry that this only lasted 3 seasons? Good shows anyway.

Comparing the two is not fair, gervais himself, who was important in the creation of both versions (UK and US) says himself that each was written to engage culturally and satirically the home audience of where they were shot, so almost all Brits should prefer the UK version and almost all Americans should prefer the US version!
