many studios use multiple software packages in their pipeline as well as their own, in studio programmed innovations. All of which get shared with the entire computer industry,...eventually. There were good things about Kinetix Avid Alias and Newtek and even though autodesk owns 3 of them now I find it odd that many of those differences remain. Lightwave has its niche like any program. It is fast, cheap(er) and easy to use, but less robust than Maya. Because of this, it is used frequently in commercial and television production, where there is very little time until deadline. You'll find a higher frequency of houses using Lightwave in productions with tight schedules.

Thats a bad argument for LW. You should be trying to show off what your product can do, otherwise, how can your user base grow? I know a few people who work on Blockbuster films. Films like Tron, 2012, Olympic thief, How to train Dragon, Stealth, Gi-joe etc...They all have started off with LW, but they are mainly in Maya,Houdini, and MAX. THey say that LW is dying software. Very few studios are using it. Thats why i switched! Sorry to inform you, but your comment hurt LW, more than helped it!

Lightwave is definitely great , sure it's less popular but that doesn't mean it's not as good as max,maya or softimage . Many still use this but you don't see all of them show off to the internet : " look what I did in Lightwave " .

Lightwave has really good rendering power, and the fact that it's rendering engine is inhouse is a plus. but I don't care much for its modeling and animation tools.

Nobody uses it? Lightwave is the the main package in our studio! We just paid to upgrade it and our Maya license is like four years old. We use it for character animation and advanced graphics.
