Yes and he was also a painter from an early age.
The club, the Ricky ...
The club, the Ricky Tick, was a famous blues club, recreated for the movie. I think it's incredibly cool looking, especially compared to the grimy venues in Manhattan at the time like the Cafe au Go Go or the Cafe Wha.

Hemmings was a gifted singer (classical music) as a child and appears on some recordings I believe.

jimmy page didnt ...
jimmy page didnt start doing hard drugs till '75, having been turned onto heroin by richard cole, their roadie, all musicians in the 60s smoked pot and drank, by his late teens jimmy was the most talented and versatile session guitarist in england, if he was wacked on drugs, he never would've became as great as he was and is. to say he was a druggie is ignorant and insulting, he quit drugs all together in the early 80s and is clean to this day!

I heard the Velvet ...
I heard the Velvet Underground was Antonioni's first choice but couldn't get visas due to a drug conviction. Just as well. The Yardbirds are more suitable for the movie's mod London setting. I love the way you hear the feedback out on the street and the man follows the sound of the feedback to the club.

A cross between ' ...
A cross between 'The Train Kept A-Rollin' & 'Honey Hush' by Johnny Burnette. The Who was Antonioni's first choice for this scene, but they we're unavailable for the filming, so The Yardbirds we're offered it instead. Another fact about this scene, if you notice Jeff Beck begins the scene with a gibson les paul, then for the rest of the scene plays a hofner. Basically Beck didn't want to trash the les paul, and told Antonioni as much, so they opted to give Beck a cheaper hofner to smash instead.
