Also, you shouldn't worry about the structural integrity of these large buildings. People had the same worries about the Empire State Building at first. In reality the opposite is true. Generally the larger the building, the sturdier it is. Skyscrapers are designed to absorb and neutralize force, and they sway like trees in the wind. Taipei 101 can withstand magnitude 9, and perhaps even 10 earthquakes. 9.5 is the strongest ever recorded. Smaller buildings can't do this Don't worry =)

We haven't seen a good old fashioned skyscraper competition since New York in the 20s and 30s. Good going, Dubai. These are truly splendid structures! My hope is that all this might spark some friendly competition in the U.S. We haven't had any really impressive megaprojects since Apollo!
