These cicadas look ...
These cicadas look to be Aussies. They do not rasp legs against wings, they have muscles that vibrate drum-heads inside their hollow abdomens which act as resonating chambers to make their 'music'. At the start of this video, you see its abdomen lifted high, the orange colored plates below it help guide and 'shape' the sound emitted from a wide opening, normally covered by those plates when at rest.

Actually there are headphones that solve this problem. BOSE is the best of the bunch, but there are others as well. These headphones filter sound and erase only the certain frequencies, such as this cicade sound. It is really effective and far better than sound dampening ear plugs i.e. you still can hear other sounds.
