Chimps current culture is about the level of humans at its beginning - after they started using stone tools (by searching for and finding the fitting stones) but before they started to work on the stones themselves. Btw there are known chimp multifunctional tool. As for hammers, they were "reinvented" by the chimps around some 4500 years ago, so the current archaeology. Still some millenia to go before they use stones to change other stones.
