Convincing others not to buy Dell products from a single experience is kinda lame, don't you think? I have a Dell laptop and i broke it by accident, i told them how it happened. They fixed it the next week. No bad support, no extra payment.

Do not buy a Dell PC or Laptop. As soon as I started using my $1,000 Inspiron tower, it got the blue screen of death, which reappears every 1 or 2 hours. The company won't honour its warranty to this day, and their customer service has been downright awful (I've been speaking to a bunch of Indians who do everything in their power to either redirect my call or try to convince me that my issue is not covered by a warranty). Buy anything but a Dell (or Acer).

It depends on what ...
It depends on what will do with the laptop. i7 cpu sounds cool, but if you spend most of time on facebook or office, the powerful cpu will just waste your battery and become a stove. Besides, XPS is not good at large games like BF3 because of its relatively weak graphics, so only if you are a video editor, music producer or scientist, i5+8gb is enough. You know, even a core 2 can play 1080p video smoothly.

Alienware would be ...
Alienware would be over-kill for your use. 14/15 it doesn't matter, everything is the same, minus the 1". If you have the extra money get the 15, otherwise get the 14. Personally, I bought the 15z and absoutely love it. Great specs and looks.

@suxatguitar The battery reporting from the system is inaccurate -- we'd been filming the system for an hour, and the meter vacillated between 30% and 50% between each take, with the time remaining swinging from 1 hour 5 minutes to 2 hours 50 minutes for each. However, in our actual time tests under load, it consistently came in around 2.5 hours of life on a full charge. Hope that clears up the confusion! Jeff
