Irony. He says he'll make it through the year, but it looks like he isn't even going to make it through the day; tied up in what looks like a Dexter kill-room. The last line gives it away: at Passover Jews say "next year in Jerusalem"... it's hopeful, but sad too: keep hoping things will get better, but they never get better. John goes further: not just IN Jerusalem next year, but feasting & dancing. Like this improbable thing is more likely than him making it through the events in the lyrics.
