I hate to be the guy that comes off like douche by dropping this into my reply but here goes. I'm currently in film school (settle down), and that is so true, not only for vfx but every single aspect, whether it be editing or whatever. No matter how you do what you do, the goal is to create an emotional impact. The CGI in this film, yes it's a film, really drives the emotion home and everyone who watched it felt something. Personally I was completely blown away...especially with the CGI.

The CGI in this ...
The CGI in this gives the film that perfect dreamlike, suspension of reality feeling that wouldn't have been accomplished otherwise. That's what the director wanted, and it came out amazingly.

It's completely irrelevant whether the film is made using film, CGI, actors or animated characters or somewhere between all of these things. The only thing that ultimately matters is whether the effect is achieved and people watching are able to feel the magic and connect with whatever vision the artists were trying to put across.

I like it all the BETTER because it's made using computer graphics. This is a real tour de force in both technology and artistry and emotional connect. So what do you care what the medium is? This is the 21st century and the dawn of the independent digital film. I can do simple machinima. I'm in awe of people who can do this.

Yeah, I actually read it ... and I would dare to say its a film... and I agree with you there are many CGI elements... but I have a different opinion about the use of CGI. I think it is another way of showing things that cant be showed and the director wants to offer in it's film. Like you mentioned... it's just an opinion (: but hey! both of us say this is art (which it is...) we just differ in semantics ( and I hate grammar classes) lol...

@Timin: I had no idea how much of it was CGI upon seeing the original. Knowing how much CGI went into it only makes it MORE amazing in my opinion. Technology is technology, it's what the artist does with it that matters. This short film is an astounding execution of an equally amazing concept.
