My other phone is original Galaxy S when compared to my Galaxy Nexus the Galaxy S seems to have more vivid colours, this is with both phones on full brightness.

Galaxy is great but Nexus is better in thermas of OS - that's for sure. I don't like all of those apps preinstalled by Samsung. They sits on your phone taking up the resources and there is no way to uninstall them. I'm going with Nexus next time.

That S2 screen does seem kinda strange. Especially that blue tint on the white, my own SGS2 is waaay different. It almost looks like the brightness is all the way down - it even looks like the Galaxy Nexus isn't on full brightness.

are you sure that the S2 brightness at maximum? because S2 browser has their own brightness option whenever you use it. The browser override OS brightness. When I first got it, I noticed the white is dark then I check the option in the browser. there's no way S2 screen look that bad and dark.

Was the galaxy s2s screen on maximum brightness? the screen needs to be viewed straight on, otherwise it gives a blue/green tinge and doesnt look as bright as it is

no offense, but I believe your Galaxy S II's screen is defective. All the ones I've seen in person have far better color reproduction and brightness than yours. This was a somewhat common problem among the early batches. Then again it could just be the camera.
