Amazing! All the ladies working there 53 years ago Wow , Rosie the fret setter!

Strats sold until May of 59 had maple boards!

Learn how to READ ...

Learn how to READ you retarded fucking cock holster before you open your trap! They had slab board rosewood fingerboards from May 59 on, meaning sold from May 59 on. I already corrected that. The main point is correct. SRV's # 1 strat didn't have a 59 neck or body!

6 years later a man ...

6 years later a man called jimi hendrix picked one of these guitars and made history

I think the ...

I think the features overlapped. It wasn't a one day yes, next day no. I don't follow the guitar inventories of vintage dealers these days. But I worked at Gruhn's for three years 79-82. I also restored the first left handed start ever made. 54 #0038 (I think?)

If you have ...

If you have restored / repaired a lot of vintage Strats and Teles, I'm quite surprised you've never seen a '59 with a 1p maple neck ? Do a Google search by image with "1959 Fender Stratocaster maple neck" and you'll find quite a few. Norman's Rare Guitars happens to have a mint one listed and I've seen quite a few of those listed at eBay. I've just checked my records and 2TSB finishes were discontinued by Fender in early 1958: The pic in my avatar is an 100% original 3/1958 finished in 3TSB.

If you had a ...

If you had a genuine '59 with an original 2 tone sunburst, then you had the rarest of the '59 Stratocasters. I've studied and inspected quite a few '59's in the last 22 years and I've never come across one with a 2TSB factory finish. I'd say 98% of the Stratocasters built between January to April '59 have a 1 piece maple neck and a 8 or 9 screw white guard. From May 1959 onwards, all of them had a 11 screw green guard, rosewood board w/ clay dots.

My 59' had a two ...

My 59' had a two tone sunburst with a rosewood neck dated 4-59. but the two tone sunburst was wider like the 58 three tone. It wasn't that the red had faded. It was two tone. I doubt they stopped exactly on 12-31-58 with the maple neck and you are right in that there are some early 59 with maple, but I have yet to see one. I have restored /repaired hundreds of vintage Strats and Teles.

1959 Strats do have ...

1959 Strats do have rosewood fingerboards from mid 1959 onwards. Check your facts. =)

Well, I'm pretty ...

Well, I'm pretty sure "relics" weren't a trend back in the 50's and 60's. =)

While I'm sure this ...

While I'm sure this was filmed before 1959, Fender indeed manufactured Stratocasters and Telecasters sporting 1 piece maple necks/fingerboards until mid 1959. The transition to rosewood boards happened somewhere between March/April of that year. The real reason I'm sure this wasn't filmed in 1959 is because the guitars you see in the footage they all have a 2 tone sunburst finish (discontinued by late 1957 / early 1958). From 1958 onwards ALL Fender guitars sported a 3TSB finish as standard.

how long ago was this?

It is weird that ...

It is weird that they charge extra today for what was considered a defect in 1959.

I humbly stand ...

I humbly stand corrected! I could have sworn that even though maple wasn't in the mainline production.. I thought that it was still an option if you wanted to special order it. Guess I was wrong. Funny thing you saying that they changed it due to the finger wear.. A well played and well worn maple neck on a fender is probably the best looking neck around. Must be why the "Road Worn" series were making such a huge hit a few years back.

Sorry, Mr Tele, but ...

Sorry, Mr Tele, but your info is wrong. Fender did not make maple fingerboards on Strats, Teles, Jazzmasters, Jaguars, Mustangs or Dousonics from 1959-1968. It wasn't an "option" until after 68. It is still a great film but it was shot before 1959.

I don't think so, ...

I don't think so, There are no maple fingerboard Strats between 1959 and the late 60's when they came back out with the maple fingerboard strats and terles. There is no such thing as a Strat made in 1962 with a maple fingerboard. Fender made this change in 1959 due the the finger wear on the maple necks (which they chatge extra for now). It wasn't an "option". 59 Strats all had rosewood fingerboards.

No.. it was changed ...

No.. it was changed to an option between both.. Maple has always been and always will be an option. I'll take Maple over rosewood anytime.

Soo.. apparently ...

Soo.. apparently you were looking for what? Death Metal shit from now a days? It was the '50's for crying out loud! And if you're in any way musically inclined you'd know that most rock music of today was built on the blues!

I really enjoyed ...

I really enjoyed watching this, nothing like the good ol days. That's why they slightly vary, all hands on and very much into what they love. Must of been early 59',all maple boards and not rosewood. Thanks for posting and thank you to whom filmed it :-D.

I purposefully used the archaic spelling "compleat" knowing that a simpleton like you would likely take the bait and further make a jackass of himself, not realising (yes, with an "s" ... Webster did not invent the English language) the origin of the word. I can spell properly in 3 languages other than English, which I daresay is far more than be said for you. In keeping with my original intent I now bid you adieu, you compleat fucktard. :)

Who is responsible ...

Who is responsible for this horrible soundtrack? Seriously.

This film has to be ...

This film has to be before 1959, because the Strats were maple fingerboards. By 1959 Fender had discontinued the neck with a maple fingerboard and began producing rosewood fingerboards. I think this film has to be from 1958 or earlier.
