I think you missed ...
I think you missed my point entirely, that is unless I missed the point of your initial post which I now assume was completely tongue in cheek, because you have just restated my position. Basically with or w/o Viggo, Jackson or anyone else >still Lotr.
if not through the ...
if not through the film maker interpretation, how would you suggest the movie should have been portrayed. if they would just scroll a neutral list of occurrances down the screen and let people imagine how it would have been it would just be a little bland dont you think. Every movie is the filmmakers interpretation, if you dont agree with them just distance yourself from the movie and create your own interpretation. it's not set in stone you know.

OK. No argument - ...
OK. No argument - but take Clerks (I of course) the budget there was ca $20k - two chaps two or three hand cameras, postprod, editing.... How could you have had a 100 people crew, catering, fuel, ttransport, props, set, costumes .... If you say so...but I worked for a TV station several years and just can't picturer this - nb you give credit to wetaworks NZ - did Jackson's people work for you for free also???? Well if so - you are world champions of management/organization/PR.

This is WAAAAY better than most of hollywood movies these days.
SPOILERS I love ...
SPOILERS I love this movie. Engaging, beautifully shot and competently played. The only big problem which I have with it, story-wise, is Elgarain-Dirhaborn relationship. I found it underdeveloped, cheap, shallow, tacked-on. Elgarain has spent most of the film being Arathorn's little Betty Cooper. And then is like, 'Oh, okay, this one will take me. I haven't alluded to liking him yet. But he has decided that he's my true love for me, so why not?' (face)

Nope. It cost ...
Nope. It cost 25,000 British pounds (about $40,000 U.S. dollars). Everyone was a volunteer, and they gave their time because they love Tolkien, filmmaking, or both. Professional actors for the main characters--yes, but they still worked for free. The money went into production costs, not salaries.

OK no bullshit. It ...
OK no bullshit. It is not an independent production. This is a seven digit budget movie - closing titles run for good 5 mts - with all the crew and cast of ahundred or more souls, the logistics of production and all the costs ....are you kidding me. It is a B class movie and full pro. But I'd better leave the Tolkien's world to Jackson... not a bad job guys but you need to make up your mind.... You remind me of the Soviet Olympics team - they said they were amateurs but .... so be honest

This alas is the ...
This alas is the bane and the credit of a well-done Hollywood film. It robs people of the imagination to see a work any other way except through filmmakers interpretation. There was a LoTR before Peter Jackson.
Good work, my only ...
Good work, my only crit. and this is only subjective is that I wish you'd gone for a more "filmic" look that the digital look. But that's my own oldschool preference that I like the look of film more than I do the strictly digital look. Doesn't change the fact that you guys ( and gals ) Rock!
Yeah. All the wigs, ...
Yeah. All the wigs, all the slowmotion and overall cheeseness. Boring as hell. Why don't they just throw dices instead of clumsy sword acting. I've red all the books of Tolkien and appreciate the effort. But this is pretty soulless. This more like homage to everything that was lame in Peter Jackson's version of Arda.
