I think less emphasis should be placed on some courses such as french and spanish at particular schools where the pass rate is always dismal and technical subjects should be implemented with a view to teaching students some skill. . . .....

The schools with the weaker students are judged just the same as those where students constantly excel and the schools with lesser achieving students are expected to keep up regardless. I think this is unfair, it frustrates the teachers and the students and more adequate measures need to be taken to be taken to address this by the ministry rather than talking about a minimum requirement.

Miss Pascal is not encouraging laziness. It is the reality that some students will never leave secondary school with 10 or even 5 CXCs....at least not with the subjects that are being provided. The Ministry has adopted a one size fits all policy which obviously does not work.

While setting a minimum five subject criteria is ideal, the Ministry of education needs to wake up and face the reality. Universal Secondary Education has ensured a secondary school place for every child. While this may not be a bad thing, the Ministry needs to put measures in place at the secondary schools to provide for students who fall way below the pass mark - the 'weak' students.

I agree with the Ministry ... children should do all general exams and 5 subjects or more. Why is this teacher encouraging laziness and not encouraging the children to push harder instead? Education should be the main priority in teenagers lives!

The problem at George Charles is not that the students are slow. The parents just don't care about their child's education. The question I ask is, why are these parents being allowed to propagate the species?
