Not to address our sins since that is taken care of through Christs Blood, but for what we do here on earth. Either our works will be consumed as straw through the fires or withstand the flames and become gold. This sermon sure gave me something to think about.

For those debating the Calvinist vs. Arminian message of this hymn, remember that Wesley (both Charles and John) believed that there was a process of salvation. If you read all six stanzas of the hymn, you see that process clearly. This hymn does not proclaim salvation to all, but that all have the opportunity to receive salvation. The hymn is a story and instructions of how Wesley himself found his assurance of salvation.
