No. Do union members still get their benefits? Yes, they just pay more for their OWN benefits, which should they should. Unions should not suck from the tax payer's bossom because they feel it's their right. The GOP sported the Klan during the Volstead act. Bush cut taxes twice and fought 2 wars. BLS gov shows that since Truman,Only Reagan lowered unemploment among Conservatives the others raised it. On the Dems side, only Obama raised it. Carter it stayed the same. And, the others lowered unemployment. Look up "If, you want to live like a Republican, then vote Democratic"

I have never heard a Republican say that private sector unions should be banned or made illegal. What you are saying has never happened. Debt cieling, balanced budget, etc. that you bring up has nothing to do with this issue at hand. However, those 91% tax rates that you refer to take nothing into the fact that we had a lot more deductions back then. Nobody paid 91%. (Don't believe me, look it up yourself.)

But, the new Conservatives want to get rid of ALL unions. What's wron with Conservatism? They lost what made them better. Eisenhower knew about the need for taxes and regulations. He was in office in 1956. The LAST time the GOP had a balanced budget. And, that's with 91% tax rates and the Federal Highway Act. Reagan was the one who gave federal workers social security. Raised the debt ceiling 17 times, and raised taxes 7 times.

Reagan was not talking about public sector unions, but private sector unions. FDR himself said that collective bargaining for public emplyees was a bad idea. In reference to the air traffic controllers, we had government employees that were striking. Reagan stated that once federal employees are givien the right to strike, those same employees have the rest of us by the balls.
