Also Axe kicks are more likely to knock-out someone your own weight, very difficult to knockout some who is taller & bigger than you, I study Kyokushin like Hug as well there's very few guys who use it because of precisely that.

K1 guys are hard to knock out & using an axe kick to knockout someone is hard because it doesn't generate alot of force compared to a roundhouse, but in Andy's case he was also too small, Mirko was never 10-15kg lighter, he was 108kg, that was average weight of the heavyweights like Hoost & Aerts, some were bigger though, whereas Hug was 98kg, axe kicks aren't KO techniques but their difficult to defend that's why Hug always landed with axe kicks, he landed 3 on mirko when he passed his prime.

Well, You know I think his axe kick was pretty damn good but I think it just got predictable and k1 guys are hard to knock out. Mirko Cro cop was lighter than most fighters by 10-15 kg but he still knocked people out. I think perhaps the axe kick at really high levels of competition just isn't as effective.
