Ruger MK II & III Disassembly/Reassembly EASY (part 1 of 2)
hey thanks for the ...
hey thanks for the vid.. A friend is giving me his Mark 2 this weekend, but it's disassembled.. I'm glad I saw this as I feel like I know how to get the hammer lined up and tilting the muzzle up to get the firing pin lined up. We'll see how it goes this weekend !
I'm really glad. ...
I'm really glad. I'd like to petition Ruger and see if they'd be interested in having me do their instructional videos for the site. Thanks for the great feedback.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Thank you! Your ...
Thank you! Your method of putting the bolt into the barrel first and then mounting on the frame and your clear explaination of correct hammer position (as well as the dangling tang bit) is much better than what I have seen in any other video (including those on Ruger website). My new Mark iii was giving me fits becuase hammer was in wrong position so I could not get the mainspring to fold back into the frame, but the method you show is very straight-forward and foolproof!
good video. I had ...
good video. I had forgotten, hadn't disassembled for years.

best instructional video I saw for this gun....easy fast and precise
Great video makes ...
Great video makes it easy to disassemble and assemble again! I have not touched this gun for about 7 years and I totally forgot how to take it apart. This video helped me do it right the first time! Tomorrow it gets a real workout at the range.
Thanks for the ...
Thanks for the comment. I think you'll find that the receiver lines up much easier after just a few takedowns. If you want to leave it on, that's fine but I think you'll find that a lot of fouling ends up in the receiver over time and it goes down onto the top of the trigger mechanism, fouling it badly. It's a matter of taste. I just find it easier to clean with the receiver off. By all means, leave it on if you prefer that. I hope this helps.
This video was very ...
This video was very helpful! My MKIII is brand new, so the rubber mallet was an absolute necessity (and recommended in the manual). Question: Is it really necessary to remove the receiver for a routine cleaning? The hardest part for me was getting the holes in the receiver and frame lined up just right so I could get the bolt stop pin back in. But if I leave the receiver on the frame I can still do a good cleaning, and getting the bolt stop pin through those holes is much quicker.
"This is harder on ...
"This is harder on new guns", boyyyy is that an understatement. Get ready for some cursing and have a rubber hammer handy to "nudge" that upper in and out of place. Great video.

Thanks. I used Imovie on my Macbook Pro (OSX)

Really like the 'stars' in the opening of your video. What software was used to create this effect?

You explain it very well. Thanks.
Big Agitator, I ...
Big Agitator, I have an issue on re-assemby of a Mark II. I got the stop back in the top of the receiver with a snap. And, I got the 'spring pressure' on the final step so that should be correct. However, if I cycle the action quickly, it snaps back to the receiver and I can pull the trigger. But sometimes, it does not close completely and the trigger is not reset. I can push it in with my finger but that is not right. Any idea what the problem may be?
Well That's a ...
Well That's a bummer. It makes me feel better about the fact that I couldn't figure out what was going on. Hopefully ruger will give you good turn around so you can keep shooting!
Well, the gunsmith ...
Well, the gunsmith couldn't figure out what was wrong either. When he reassembled it, it wouldn't fire, as it wouldn't for me when I was able to get it back together. He's probably sending it back to Ruger.
just oil the ...
just oil the extractor and blow it off with an air keyboard duster. always dose the trick.
So glad to find ...
So glad to find this I got a AMT Lightning ( used ) and had a few cycling problems .. Had no book nothing .. took it apart and cleaned it up.. took me two days to get it back together and working .. I will be more confident this time around . Was about half scared to take it apart again .
I hope you can get ...
I hope you can get it resolved without too much trouble! I'd love to hear what it turns out to be. Thanks
I took it in to a ...
I took it in to a gunsmith, and he had the same problem as I did! So he kept it to see if he could see what was wrong. It might be a bent pin of some sort. I'll let you know.
It's hard to say ...
It's hard to say what's going on. Without seeing it, it's hard for me to answer this particular question. I'd say that a gunsmith might be able to shed some light on the issue for not much money. Some of those guys are super nice and won't charge you if it's just a matter of snapping something together a certain way. I hope this helps.
Thank you! very ...
Thank you! very helpful!
You have to dry ...
You have to dry fire the mark 2 or else it can completely lock up then you need to take it to a gun smith to completely dis assemble it. its a bitch lol
Finally got it all ...
Finally got it all the way in, and thought I had it spring resistance before locking the hammer spring in place. However, the trigger was not working. I tried to pull it apart again, but ran into the problem in the video above. I cannot get the hammer spring out. I tried tapping on a wooden block. AFAIK, I've put gun up and down at the right time to get the hammer in the right position, but something is really wrong.
That didn't work ...
That didn't work either, as soon as I start to lever in, it pulls the pin down. I watched up close to your video. I can't seem to get the pin as far in as you do. I watched you press with your thumb as the last step to insert it up. Mine seems to be too tight to get it in that far...
