I agree about Ralph Edwards - ( I kept wishing he would just shut up). But if you can get past that, it is great to have access to this footage, and being able to see Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy from that time is really a privilege. Really enjoyed watching this video from almost 60 years ago.

Stan Laurel and ...
Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy were both in their sixties when this episode of "This Is Your Life" was aired in 1954. They had been making movies for more than 30 years plus at this point in their lives. They were old men, essentially. People in their sixties were not as healthy and full of vitality as people in their sixties are today. Oliver Hardy, as you can see early in the program, was a smoker, and that affected his health as well. Hardy died in 1957. Laurel died in 1965.

I always thought the concept of this show was ridiculous. They claim it was a "surprise" but it was really a surprise attack. These celebrities were cornered and if they refused they would look bad in front of their fans. Actress Angie Dickinson didn't care. When she got on the stage in front of EVERYONE and the host yelled out "This is your life!" she shot back "Fuck No! I won't do it! Not on YOUR life!" Classic.

Laurel and Hardy are the best comedy team ever to grace our screens in history there is no one else to match them not morcombe and wise , ant or sodding deck or what ever they are called nither come to that the two ronnies or any one else you can name, thier films are still selling today on dvd who else as achieved this in film. Perfect gentlemen both and legends who will never fade.
